Established in Portland, Oregon in 1943, the Cascade Manufacturing Company started as a small machine store employing only four people. Overall sales for that initial year totaled 60 thousand dollars. The first recorded sales revenues involved the machining and assembly of stainless-steel valves, pipe fittings and other parts. Throughout 5 years of operation, the company had expanded to 40 employees and their yearly sales volume had increased to 330 thousand dollars. These days, Cascade is one of the leading worldwide producers within the material handling trade.
Design and production of the company's first hydraulic cylinder allowed this new business to aggressively pursue better business possibilities. Throughout the last 60 years, the industry of material handling has developed into a very sophisticated area with Cascade proudly playing a part in its development. Cascade currently continues to grow as the leader provider of lift truck accessories and numerous related items. All through the 1950's, Cascade started to manufacture, design, and promote its hydraulic attachments. A brand new facility was constructed in 1956, to house all the plant operations and offices in Portland, Oregon, which continues to be the company's present head office. Following fifteen years of business, total workers reached a hundred and eighty staff and sales had reached practically two million three hundred thousand dollars.
In the year 1959 in Springfield, Ohio the next production plant was built. nineteen sixty marked Cascade's initial move into the global world of the material handling industry when the business established interest in England, Australia, and the Netherlands.
The company altered its name to Cascade Corporation in the year 1964. In the year 1965, Cascade went public with a preliminary offering of 200,000 shares of common stock. The company has expanded its manufacturing plants throughout the U.S. with locations in Springfield, Ohio, Warner Robins, Georgia, Portland, Oregon. Cascade products are manufactured internationally thanks to a lot of subsidiary operations. In 1994, a new facility was accomplished in Almere, the Netherlands which is Cascade's European head office. This facility is built to be the ultimate customer support centre.
Continuing to develop, Cascade expanded their product offering further in 1996 and 1997 with the remarkable acquisition of five firms, along with the international best in forks, the Kenhar Corporation.
